A tuition centre in Leicester for children aged 7 to 16: maths, English and science, 11+ and GCSE preparation, in groups of five or one-to-one.
Every child starts with a free assessment, where a tutor reads how they work, not only what they get.

A Year 6 sum, as it came in. Three quarters add two fifths. The working is neat, and the answer is wrong.
The tutor marks the idea, not the sum. She has added the tops and added the bottoms. That is one missing idea, not a weak child, and a very common one.
Then one step back. Make the pieces the same size first, twentieths, and she writes it out again herself, longhand.
Right, and she can say why. That is what the free assessment is for: forty-five minutes finding the step that went wrong, in maths, English or science.

Maths, English and science, from Year 3 to Year 11.
Groups are set by school year and by the level the assessment finds, five children at most, so nobody is the slowest in the room or the bored one at the front.

Years 5 to 11

After the assessment.
The same tutor every week, a report you can actually read, and a way to see the difference every term.
The first visit
The free assessment
Forty-five minutes with a tutor, working through questions pitched at your child's school year, in the subject you're worried about. You wait in the parents' room, and there's tea.
Within three working days
A written report
Where your child is, the steps that went wrong, and the group or plan we'd suggest. There's no obligation to take it up.
Every week
The same tutor, the same group
An hour a week, set by school year and by level, five children at most, or one-to-one. Twenty minutes of homework, marked by the next session.
Every half term
A progress note
A page from the tutor on what's been covered and what comes next. Bring the school exercise book in now and then, and we'll teach to what school is teaching.
Every term
Re-assessed, then a chat
The same kind of paper as the first assessment, so you can see the difference, and fifteen minutes with the tutor.
Prices, by the session.
We bill monthly, for the sessions in that month. There's no contract and no registration fee, and a month's notice ends it.

Taught by teachers.
There are twelve of us. Every tutor is a qualified teacher or a graduate in the subject they teach, every one is checked to work with children, and your child keeps the same tutor every week.
Meera Chauhan
Founder, maths
Taught maths in Leicester secondary schools for twelve years, and ran a department for five.
Sam Doyle
English and the 11+
A primary teacher for nine years before Longhand.
Dr Ola Adeyemi
Science
A chemist, and a secondary science teacher before that.
“Within a term Aisha stopped saying she was rubbish at maths. The report after the assessment told us exactly where she'd got stuck, and it was fractions in Year 4.”
Farah, Evington
“Jack sat a mock here every half term, so on the day the 11+ felt like another Saturday morning.”
